Public Health Internships Abroad

Gain relevant work experience by participating in medical outreaches and educational campaigns.

A Public Health internship abroad is a way for you to support community healthcare and gain practical experience at the same time. You’ll deepen your understanding of local healthcare practices, as well as broader medical issues, while actively helping others.

You can complete your international health internship in local clinics, community centres, or schools. You’ll get involved by doing health checks and educational talks during community outreaches in disadvantaged, rural areas. In some cases, you’ll do home visits.

Our Public Health opportunities abroad allow you to develop your medical skills and expand your knowledge. This is excellent preparation for the next stage of your education and career. It’s a great addition to your CV and will help your job or study applications stand out.

Is a Public Health internship abroad right for me?

If you’re looking to gain hands-on public health work experience and learn more about local and global health issues, then these internships are ideal for you. We have options to suit a range of skills levels, whether you’re just starting out, or wanting to further your career and broaden your horizons.

Many of our interns don’t have previous experience in their chosen field, so you can start at a level you’re comfortable with. During your time abroad, you will be well supported by your local colleagues, as well as our Projects Abroad staff. As you work on outreaches and support local communities, you’ll be learning and working under the supervision of medical professionals.

If you’re a student needing to complete an elective module, take a look at our range of Medical Electives. If you’re interested in working in a more clinical setting, then perhaps our Medicine or Nursing internships would suit you better. See our full range of projects for internships abroad.

What will I gain from a Public Health internship abroad?

Our Public Health opportunities abroad are a fantastic way to prepare for the next stage of your education and career. You’ll gain invaluable work experience and boost your CV, in addition to future job or study applications.

Previous interns have also described the following benefits:

  • Developing soft skills such as teamwork, communication, resilience, leadership, time-management, organisation, and planning
  • Experience with diseases and conditions that might not exist in your home country
  • Increased self-confidence as you push past your comfort zone
  • The ability to empathise and work with people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • A more in-depth internship experience than you might receive back home

Public health work abroad is a wonderful way for you to develop both personally and professionally. It will give you a deeper insight into the healthcare challenges people face everyday.

How are Projects Abroad’s international health internships different?

At Projects Abroad, our first aim is to benefit the communities we work in. You can be assured that your internship is ethical, well supported, and part of a better future. Here’s just a few elements of our work that set it apart from other internship programmes:

Recording our work in a secure database

We created a Global Impact Database so we can track the positive impact our projects have. This is a secure and anonymous database that we use to identify specific areas of need. It allows us to use data to shape medical outreaches and health awareness programmes. We can also monitor individuals we see often, report our results, and collect data for research. All of this work is guided by our Management Plans

Real work with trained professionals

On our internships, you’ll work alongside real healthcare professionals. You can observe them in their everyday work, ask questions and hear more about their experiences. You’re likely to get more insights into the frontline of medical care than in your home country.

A tailored approach

We are often able to tailor your internship to your interests. You can work in more than one department or focus on one particular area, or experience outreach work in the local community.

Our Medicine & Healthcare policy

We take the safety of our volunteers, interns, and the people they work with very seriously. That’s why we’ve put in place a comprehensive Medical Ethics Policy.
