Arrival airport and pickup in Nepal
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, a Projects Abroad staff member will be there to welcome you. They will then drive you to your accommodation in the city, where you’ll be able to relax and settle in. It’s about a thirty minute drive from the airport to the city centre.
If you’re being placed in Chitwan, you’ll spend your first night in Kathmandu, before travelling to Chitwan the next day by bus.
The cost of your airport transfers are included in your project fee.

Visas requirements for your volunteer project or internship in Nepal
One of the perks of volunteering with us is the visa guidance we give you. We have a dedicated visa team who have up-to-date information on visa requirements for all of our destinations around the world. You can get in touch with us if you have any visa queries, big or small, and we will talk you through the process. Once you apply, you’ll also get a link to your own MyProjectsAbroad webpage, which will include all the necessary visa information.
Your induction and orientation in Nepal
On your first day, you’ll receive a general introduction to the area where you’ll be living and working. We will also give you an induction pack, which contains useful information such as local maps and contact details.
A local staff member will take you on a tour, pointing out useful places in your area. They will help you to buy a local SIM card and exchange money. You’ll also learn how to navigate the local public transport system. In addition, there will be a visit to our local office, where you’ll find out more about the way we run our projects in Nepal.
Your first day at your volunteer or internship placement in Nepal
It’s important that you’re prepared for the work you’ll be doing at your placement. That’s why you’ll receive a comprehensive orientation on your first day. A Projects Abroad staff member will accompany you to work from your host family so that you learn the how to get there.
You’ll be shown around and get to meet the different people you’ll be working with. You’ll also get to see how the placement is run. By your second day, when the real work begins, you’ll be feeling confident and prepared.

Your safety and security is our prime concern. We have many procedures and systems to ensure you have the support you need to enjoy your trip with peace of mind. Our Projects Abroad staff are available 24 hours a day to help, and will be on-hand to make sure you settle in well at your accommodation and placement. If you encounter any problems, they will be available to help at any time.
