Projects Abroad Human rights volunteer from Ireland, Anna Moran, chats with an immigration officer about child trafficking in Ghana

If you’re passionate about law and human rights, our Human Rights in Ghana Short-term Special is the ideal opportunity to gain first-hand experience.

Even though Ghana is one of the most developed and stable countries in Africa, many people face exploitation and abuse and are not even aware of their rights or how the law should protect them. Our Human Rights project works to educate local communities about their rights, monitors vulnerable areas and communities to prevent abuses, and helps resolve human rights cases.

By joining this project, you will have the chance to work alongside local and international human rights and legal experts in some of the most marginalised communities in Ghana, and learn about Ghana’s unique political, legal and cultural systems and how these impact in human rights in the country.

Even though this is an intense and rewarding experience, it’s not all work. In the evenings you will get to immerse yourself in the local way of life, with your host family and during social events in the local community. On weekends, we will arrange tours to Cape Coast, Kakum National Park as well as many beautiful local beaches.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
