African Bushveld Conservation in Botswana and South Africa
- Placement location: Wild At Tuli Nature Reserve
- Types of placement: Conservation work
- Accommodation: Shared Tents
- Age Requirements: 15-18 years old
Even before you arrive at our conservation project in Southern Africa you will see some stunning wilderness on your journey to base camp. You will fly into Polokwane, in the northern region of South Africa, and then drive across the Botswana border. Your final destination is Wild At Tuli – our large nature reserve.
You will stay at the reserve, which is well facilitated to accommodate volunteers. It has large and spacious safari tents, showers open to the stars and a large open air communal area, complete with a fire circle and braai pit (similar to a BBQ).
Volunteering on this project is hard work, a lot of fun and extremely rewarding. You will be involved in wrapping trees to prevent damage from elephants, removing alien plants and collecting scientific data on the birds and elephants in the reserve.
Volunteers will be accompanied at all times by our conservation staff. They have lots of experience of all the activities that volunteers are involved in, as well as a great knowledge of the region's geography and wildlife. They will pass on their expertise and enthusiasm to you and you will learn a lot about living in the bush.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
