Nepal Director honoured by the Dalai Lama
Sajani Amatya, Director of Projects Abroad - Nepal was recently chosen to receive an 'Unsung Heroes of Compassion' award from his holiness the Dalai Lama for her tireless work helping to improve the lives of others.
Sajani has made an outstanding contribution in Nepal through her work on humanitarian projects over the last 17 years. 48 people from all over the world were invited by the organisation Wisdom in Action to receive the award in San Francisco. As it was such a long trip, Sajani was particularly touched that several of her friends surprised her by making the journey from Nepal to attend the presentation ceremony.
The awards were presented in alphabetical order, meaning that Sajani had the honour of being the first person to receive her award and blessing. Sajani tells us, 'A statement about the work I had done was read out. It was a very special moment in my life. My father had done so much good work himself, but he died early and I felt that as his daughter I can continue the work he left. I dedicated the award to my mother and explained that it was thanks to the effort she made after my father's death that l am where I am today. I am so pleased that she could be there with me to see me receive the award.'
