Full and Part-Time Language Courses - Learn Languages Abroad

Language Courses

Living with a host family and becoming part of the local community while overseas is a great chance to learn a language or improve your existing linguistic skills.

It's certainly a good idea to begin a gap year or career break placement by brushing up on a language or learning more than just the casual basics. This enables you to get the most out of your entire volunteering experience.

By taking some lessons and practicing your new linguistic skills in daily-life situations, you will find that you make good progress. Life as a volunteer is always easier when you can speak some of the local languages.

Learn the local language, including Arabic, French, Portuguese or Spanish, on a Language Project Overseas

Projects Abroad offers the option of a month long intensive Language Course Placement in the following destinations.

  • Amharic - Ethiopia
  • Arabic - Morocco
  • French - Morocco, Senegal and Togo
  • Portuguese - Brazil
  • Romanian - Moldova and Romania
  • Russian - Moldova
  • Spanish - Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru
  • Tamazight - Morocco

These language placements include 60 hours of personal tuition per month or 30 hours in two weeks - usually on a one-to-one basis. The lessons are tailored to suit your ability and personal requirements. You will normally study 15 hours per week from Monday to Friday, which will give you plenty of time to complete homework, spend time with your local host family and practice your new skills while exploring your new surroundings.

It's also easy for you to participate in local cultural experiences through libraries, entertainment events and music.

After completing a two week or month long Language Project you could then go on to take part in another voluntary placement where you can put your language skills to good use, like Teaching in Senegal, Care in Mexico or the Nomad Project in Morocco.

If you want to take part in a project where a reasonable level in the local language is required, then completing a month long Language Project first may enable you to take part in another project, like Medicine in Mexico, or Journalism in Senegal.
